Concentrations of cefixime in bronchial mucosa and sputum after three oral multiple dose regimens.
In a study of 58 patients the concentrations of cefixime, a new oral cephem antibiotic, in bronchial mucosa were 35-40% of the concentrations found in simultaneously collected serum samples. The antibiotic was often undetectable in sputum despite a highly sensitive assay.
متن کاملPenetration of piperacillin into bronchial mucosa and sputum.
Bronchial mucosal biopsies were obtained during fibreoptic bronchoscopy in 12 patients receiving a new semisynthetic penicillin, piperacillin. The piperacillin levels estimated in bronchial mucosa exceeded those required to eradicate organisms associated with acute bronchitis, Haemophilus influenzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and compared favourably with those required for activity against a...
متن کاملConcentrations of oral lomefloxacin in serum and bronchial mucosa.
The bronchial mucosal concentrations of lomefloxacin were determined for specimens obtained by fiber-optic bronchoscopy and compared with simultaneous concentrations in serum. The 23 patients studied were given an oral dose of 400 mg once daily for 4 days to achieve steady-state levels. The median concentration in serum was 2.5 micrograms/ml (range, 1.0 to 5 micrograms/ml), and the median bronc...
متن کاملGranulocyte–macrophage colony-stimulating factor expression in induced sputum and bronchial mucosa in asthma and COPD
BACKGROUND Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) has been implicated as an important mediator in the pathogenesis of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the expression of GM-CSF and its receptor in airway samples in asthma and COPD across disease severity needs to be further defined. METHODS Sputum GM-CSF was measured in 18 control subjects, 4...
متن کاملAntileukoprotease in sputum during bronchial infections.
Production of sputum and concentrations of antileukoprotease (ALP) in sputum were serially measured in hypersecreting patients with recurrent or chronic bronchial infections. Patients with stable continuous mucoid (n = 4) or purulent (n = 5) secretions had constant sputum concentrations of ALP and a calculated daily production of 1.4 and 1.9 mg of ALP per 24 hours, respectively. In patients wit...
